Accident to the glider SZD-9 bis 1E Bocian registration LY-GPX

On 19 July 2020 18 UTC the glider SZD-9 bis 1E Bocian registration LY-GPX shortly after take-off due to changed weather conditions and insufficient height was forced to land near the airstrip of Kupiškis aeroclub, Rudikai village, Kupiškis district. The pilot was not injured. The glider has a broken left wing.

Following Article 5 of Regulation (ES) No 996/2010, taking into account the expected lessons to be drawn for the improvement of aviation safety, may decide not to initiate a safety investigation when an accident concerns an aircraft with a maximum take-off mass less than or equal to 2 250 kg, and where no person has been fatally or seriously injured. Therefore, the assessment of aircraft accident has been started, after which the decision to or not to conduct a safety investigation will be made.
