Serious incident to the Airbus A320-214, registration OO-SNI

On 21 June 2023 at 12:56, the aircraft Airbus A320-214, registration OO-SNI, was lining up on the departure runway at Vilnius International Airport, when the main landing gear wheel #2 (inner wheel) separated, leading to parts scattering and the tyre departing the aircraft completely. The expulsion of parts from the wheel caused damage to the aircraft. No passengers or crew were injured. The passengers and crew disembarked normally.

In accordance with the Article 10(1) of Regulation (EU) No. 996/2010, the Air Accident Investigation Unit Belgium (AAIU) of the Kingdom of Belgium, representing the State of Registry and Operator of the aircraft, appointed Accredited Representative to participate in the safety investigation. He was supported by advisors from the operator Brussels Airlines of the aircraft. Bureau d’Enquêtes et d’Analyses pour la sécurité de l’aviation civile (BEA) of the French Republic, representing the State of Design and Manufacture of the aircraft appointed Accredited Representative to participate in the safety investigation. He was supported by advisors from the BEA and aircraft manufacturer Airbus S.A.S.

In accordance with the Article 4.10 of Annex 13 to the ICAO Convention on International Civil Aviation, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States, representing the State of Design and Manufacture of the aircraft wheel, appointed Accredited Representative to participate in the safety investigation. He was supported by advisors from the NTSB, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the wheel manufacturer Collins Aerospace.

In accordance with the Art. 8 of Regulation (EU) No. 996/2010, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and Transport Competency Agency (as national civil aviation authority) appointed advisers to participate in the safety investigation.
