Serious accident with Ro-Ro cargo vessel Finlandia Seaways, IMO 9198721

On 16 April 2018 the Lithuanian registered Ro-Ro cargo vessel Finlandia Seaways, IMO 9198721, sustained main engine failure that caused serious structural damages to the engine and fire in the engine room. Fire was successfully extinguished by the crew. One crew member, Lithuanian national, who was in the engine room at the moment of the accident suffered serious injuries, he was recovered by helicopter to the hospital. Engine room and equipment sustained damages, ship was towed for repairs. No data about pollution was reported.
Investigation of the serious accident was carried out by United Kingdom’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch in cooperation with the Investigator in Charge of Maritime Accidents and Incidents, appointed by the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Lithuania.
