Very serious accident with fishing vessel Helen Mary, IMO 9126364, registered in Germany

On 30 January 2020, seafarer, citizen of the Republic of Lithuania, fell overboard the fishing vessel Helen Mary, IMO 9126364, registerd in Germany. Accident occured when the vessel was engaged in fishing. During the search and rescue operation, the seafarer was found but his life could not be saved.

Safety investigation was carried out by the German Federal Bureau of Maritime Casualty Investigation (Bundesstelle für Seeunfalluntersuchung). As the fatal accident occurred with the seafarer who was citizen of the Republic of Lithuania, the safety investigation was carried out in cooperation with Investigator in charge of maritime accidents and incidents (Lithuanian Transport Accident and Incident Investigation Division).
