Serious accident with tanker „Zapadnyy“, IMO 8711837

On 19 December 2021, tanker „Zapadnyy“, IMO 8711837, registered in Belize, after unmooring from berth No 60, with assistance of tug, pilot on board, in the presence of strong winds, sustained difficulties to manoeuvre and started to drift towards  Smiltynė. Anchor dropped. After heaving up the anchor, vessel moved towards berth No 139 and moored. After the accident it was found that ship sustained hull penetration damage below the waterline.  No injuries, no pollution reported, no shore assistance was used after the accident.
