Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand published safety investigation report
On 17 June 2025 Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand published a safety investigation report on the accident involving the glider LAK-12, ZK-GRR, which occurred on 18 February 2024 during the winch launch at Lake Station airstrip, Howard, New Zealand. The investigation identified internal structural damage in the right wing as the most likely cause of the in-flight failure. This damage was not visible from the outside and is believed to have been caused by a hard landing and ground loop the evening prior, which was observed by a bystander but not formally reported.
