Factual Interim Report of accident safety investigation of the Boeing 737-400 SF, EC-MFE, has been published
In the early morning of the 25th of November 2024, a Boeing 737-400SF, EC-MFE, operated by Swiftair crashed during final approach to Vilnius International Airport. One of the pilots died, the other pilot and two passengers were seriously injured. The aircraft was destroyed. A residential building was severely damaged by the impact of the aircraft and by fire. The residents remained uninjured.
The safety investigation led by Safety Investigation Division of the Ministry of Justice is continuing.
In accordance with Article 5.4.6 of Annex 13 to the Convention on International Civil Aviation, for accidents that draw heightened public attention, the accident investigation authority should publish a written Interim Report within thirty days of the accident containing established factual information and indicating the progress of the investigation.
On 20 December 2024, the Safety Investigation Division of the Ministry of Justice has prepared an interim report with factual information such as history of the flight, pilots' information, aircraft information, meteorological information, flight recorders' information, the accident site, wreckage and impact information, survival aspects, etc.
This interim report presenting only factual information. The analysis, conclusions and causes of the accident will only be presented in the final safety investigation report, once all the information has been analysed and the safety investigation is completed.

The safety investigation into this accident continues to be carried out by an international safety investigation team, which includes safety investigators from Lithuania, Spain, Germany and the United States. The safety investigation is conducting under the provisions of Annex 13 to the ICAO Convention on International Civil Aviation and the Regulation (EU) No. 996/2010. The purpose of the safety investigation is to prevent the occurrence of accidents and incidents in the future, rather than establish blame or liability. The Safety Investigation Division is the independent structure part of the Ministry of Justice which is independent from the transport and judicial authorities.
