Safety Investigation Report of the accident to the glider L-13 Blanik, registration LY-GOO, that occurred on 21 June 2025 in Pociūnai village, Prienai district, the Republic of Lithuania, has been published
On 21 June 2025 a glider L-13 Blanik, registration LY-GOO, which took off from Pociūnai Aerodrome (EYPR) for a training flight, on its way back to the aerodrome, struck the branches of a tree on the territory of a nearby homestead, then spun and crashed into the roof of a farm building, and fell to the ground after impact. As a result of the accident, the cockpit sustained a substantial damage, the glider fuselage broke and both wings were deformed. Both pilots were seriously injured.
The accident was caused by a loss of control and collision with obstacles while continuing the flight towards the aerodrome at an insufficient altitude. A sudden loss of altitude caused by downdrafts, insufficient assessment of weather conditions and a circling route that was too far from the aerodrome under the conditions of strong and gusty winds and the decision to continue the flight towards the aerodrome at a low altitude instead of performing an off-field landing have also contributed to the accident.
